My brother, who is 18 this March, has finally hit his more rebellious stage. He's the only kid in the house right now, our mom is disabled and was already a pushover, and now he's feeling like the Man of the House... even though he certainly doesn't act like it.
Doesn't do his own laundry, sleeps instead of helping out around the house (when he's home), is usually at someone else's house... the usual teenage thing, I think. He's a senior, and is flunking both English and History. I was honestly surprised it wasn't his Religion class, as that's what he's failed every year so far. (Sad too, seeing as he's going to a religious school.) If he flunks out his senior year, he can't even go back the next year to try again, as that's against school policy. He'd have to go to a public or trade school.
Christmas Eve he had permission to go to a party, but had to be home a midnight. Said he couldn't make it home by then and besides, the party ends at one. Never did say when he'd be back, and came strolling into the house at three. Our mom had been calling people since two, looking for him, worrying he was dead, and getting ready to call the cops.
Surprise, he gets grounded again. This is such a normal state for him to be in, that when he found out this time had no definite end (Uncle was probably so mad he'd say not til Ryan was 18 and then he could leave)... My brother had the audacity to tell our mom that whether he was grounded or not, he's going to go to a New Year's party.
...
There is a plot now to get him here this weekend, and mysteriously not be able to pick him up or bring him home until Tuesday. The best part? He's actually willing to come up, but apparently thinks he'll only be here for a day. My plan is to tell him to bring Red Faction and distract his butt with that until it's too late.
They would have already been up here visiting yesterday and today, except my mom caught a cold from Aubrey (who always has a cold for some reason) and doesn't want to get Mammal sick. Plus, Ryan has to work on Saturdays, so he'd have been home to do what he wants early anyway.
If he somehow does manage to weasel his way into getting to the party, say getting a friend to come get him? Mom's going to call her truant officer friend (*coughs >.>*) and sign him up to be locked in a cell for three days. He certainly wouldn't see that coming.
...Merry Christmas?
